5th Grade Teacher
Year Honored: 2011

Sinai Akiba Academy
Los Angeles, CA

Biographical Information:

Hava Mirovski launched her career in education at Sinai Akiba Academy nine years ago as a kindergarten teacher, earning a reputation for innovative projects and hands-on learning in a nurturing environment. Three years ago, Mirovski was asked to consider a new position teaching fifth graders where she quickly proved her ability to stimulate achievement and a love of learning among older students as well. A lifelong learner herself, Mirovski constantly pursues ways to expand her own skills and abilities, including creative methods to teach a second language and Bible text. These days, Mirovski often encounters her former students from lower grades in a middle school class she also teaches. Never one to turn down new opportunities or responsibilities, Mirovski was selected to represent Sinai Akiba Academy in DeLeT, a program of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, which includes a 13-month fellowship program and prepares talented educators to become mentors.
