In remarks leading up to the surprise presentation of a 2012 Jewish Educator Award to Rabbi Baruch Kupfer, Milken Family Foundation Executive Vice President Richard Sandler noted, "We follow those [Jewish] values to make this world a better place. And one of the ways we do that is by making sure that every generation understands what those who went before us did to fulfill and live those values." That is the mission of Rabbi Kupfer, who has led Maimonides Academy to be at the forefront of innovation in both Judaic and general studies. Of special note is the Middot Tovot -- a focus on character and growth for young Jewish Americans. As Rabbi Kupfer told students and faculty in accepting the award, "To see them grow and develop into young adults... that will be tremendously contributing members of the Jewish community -- to society in general -- there's nothing greater."
